Elimination of Toxic Organic Dyestuffs by Commercially Anionic Polymer
Reyhan Ozdogan, Mithat Celebi
Abstract
Textile dyehouse wastewater contains a lot of colored toxic organic compounds because of retained unbound dyestuffs to fabric. Once this organic chemicals were release to water resources, streams and rives without any treatment, aquatic life adversely affected. Colored toxic compounds causes adamaging effect on the aquatic life by inhibiting light penetration anddecreasing photosynthesis. Treatment of dyehouse wastewater have many physically, chemically and biologically methods such as coagulation/flocculation with polyelectrolytes, filtration by membranes, oxidation by ozone, microorganisms, enzymes, adsorption and active sludges. In this study, anionic commercially available polymer was used to eliminate positively charged dyehouse dyestuffs.
